School Uniform Policy
Principles
It is our policy that all children should wear clothing that is in keeping with a purposeful learning ethos. We believe it is important that certain activities are facilitated by specialised and appropriate clothing when attending school, or when participating in a school-organised event outside normal school hours. We provide a complete list of the items needed for children’s school uniform in this policy and in our school prospectus.
Aims
Our policy for children’s school uniform is based on the belief that a school uniform:
-
promotes a sense of pride in the school
-
engenders a feeling of community and belonging
-
is practical and smart
-
identifies the children with the school
-
is not distracting in class (as fashion clothes might be)
-
makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance
-
is regarded as suitable, and good value for money, by most parents
-
has been designed with health and safety in mind.
Our colours are royal blue, grey, black and white and the uniform is as follows:
Boys
-
School blue sweatshirt with school logo
-
School white polo shirt wit h optional school logo
-
Grey/black trousers or grey/black shorts
-
Black school shoes
Girls
-
School blue sweatshirt or cardigan with school logo
-
School white polo shirt with school logo (logo optional)
-
Grey/black skirt, grey/black trousers or grey/black pinafore dress
-
Blue gingham dresses may be worn in the summer term
-
Black school shoes
In addition, we have optional items
-
Blue reversible fleece jackets with school logo
-
Blue book bags with the school logo
-
School blue caps or legionnaire’s caps are available for sun protection.
For PE all children need
-
School blue polo shirt with school logo
-
School blue PE shorts
-
A pair of plimsolls for some indoor P.E. and/or trainers and a tracksuit for outdoor P.E.
-
School blue gym bag with school logo (optional)
Shoes
We ask parents not to send children to school in trainers. Children are encouraged to change footwear for outdoor use, especially during the winter months to avoid mud being brought in from the playground. In this instance, children may be asked to bring into school a named pair of Wellington boots or trainers for outside use only.
Jewellery
In line with county health and safety policy, we ask parents not to allow children to wear jewellery to school. In the case of pierced ears, only small studs should be worn, which need to be removed (or covered, if the ears are newly pierced) for P.E. (If your child’s ears are recently pierced, studs should be covered for P.E.; please send your child with their own masking tape for that purpose). Neither the school nor the local authority accept responsibility for any loss or damage resulting from the wearing of jewellery.
Make up and Cosmetics
Make up is not considered appropriate or necessary. The school does not permit such products to be worn by any child, unless there is a specific event for which the Headteacher has given permission.
PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT ALL CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR IS CLEARLY NAMED.
Lost property is kept in labelled boxes in the Medical Room for at least one term.
